What is Biblical Counseling?

Picture
Simply put, "Biblical counseling is focused discipleship in a problem area of a person's life for a season." It is one-anothering soul-care.

The philosophy of ministry for us at Truth in Love Biblical Counseling Center is found in 1 Thessalonians 5:14: "And we urge you, brothers and  sisters, admonish the rebellious, comfort the discouraged, strengthen the weak, be patient toward all."

Biblical counselors take Colossians 1:28 seriously, presenting Christ without shame, lovingly confronting sin, and teaching Biblical principles in order to produce maturity in the life of the counselee, always seeking to provide comfort for the wounded as well.

We also hold to the reality that Scripture, according to 2 Peter 1:3, is fully sufficient in all matters of the human experience, all matters of life and faith.

Biblical Counseling ... is the Christ-centered, Bible-based, Holy Spirit empowered, practical and therapeutic [restorative] application of properly interpreted Biblical truths to a person's life through nurture, instruction, correction, and prayer, with the goal of personal maturity and fruitfulness as an authentic Christian.

The Truth In Love Biblical Counseling Center is the Bible-based counseling arm of Truth In Love Fellowship. Our counselors are experienced with helping people find God's solutions to the troubles and problem areas of life.

Whether you are troubled by the sins you've committed, evils you have suffered, or lies you have believed, God's Word and a compassionate Biblical counselor can bring healing and wholeness to your life.

For those burdened by "besetting sins" like addictions, we have helped thousands of people find true and lasting freedom.

For those who have experienced relational trauma, we also have extensive experience helping survivors of oppression and abuse, those impacted by sexual and relational brokenness,  and those who have experienced traumatic loss.

Our counseling ministry focuses on ministering to the real and specific needs of hurting people from every walk of life and of all ages. We offer individual, couples, family, and group counseling. It is our goal to provide appropriate, timely, effective restorative help to meet the unique needs of each person—no matter what they are facing.

There is a profound difference in content and results between counseling based in God's Word and secular therapy approaches. We offer authentic and effective Biblical counseling that provides permanent solutions to people's problems and helps them develop a robust relationship with Jesus Christ. Spiritual maturity is a key ingredient of our counseling approach. Understanding who we are from God's perspective is the key that unlocks God's remedy. For a clearer understanding of what Biblical Counseling is and isn't and how it differs from others approaches to counseling and soul-care, download a free copy of our eBook, "Why Biblical Counseling?"

We provide a safe and loving environment, and we are committed to providing help and hope through professional and paraprofessional Christ-centered, Bible-based counseling and encouragement. The goal is for those who utilize this ministry to achieve true and lasting freedom from the bondage of the hurts and behaviors that prevent living the full and healthy life God has always intended.

Our Philosophy of Counseling:
We are not just counselors who are Christians—we are Biblical Counselors. The methods and strategies of this counseling ministry are all based on the Bible, its categories, and how the truths in God's Word apply to the problems of mankind. The purpose of this ministry is to bring healing to the Christian as well as the non-Christian community by means of properly interpreted and applied Biblical truth. The goal is life transformation, not simply behavioral modification.

We believe that God is not only willing to heal people, but that He wants to heal the whole person: body, mind, and spirit. We also believe that only God and His Word can bring this healing to people's lives.
