Statement of Practice
Biblical counseling is based on the inerrancy, authority, and sufficiency of the Word of God.
To safeguard against misguided and unbalanced practices of counseling which may be labeled “biblical,” some standards of practice need to be established.

The following criteria are chosen as markers for distinction as biblical counselors, and to as a means of providing some measure of trustworthiness of “best practices” – both with our counseling team at Truth in Love Biblical Counseling Center and within the broader network of the biblical counseling world

Accordingly, Truth in Love Biblical Counselors are required to affirm and agree to the following:
I believe and affirm that the Bible, through the Holy Spirit's guidance, provides complete guidance for all aspects of human life and faith. My counseling approach will be rooted in the clear teaching of Scripture, rather than secular theories of psychology or philosophy.

I recognize that all people need salvation through Jesus Christ. When counseling those who haven't yet found this salvation, I will prioritize sharing the message of Christ as Savior and Lord in a compassionate and Spirit-led manner.

I commit to emphasizing the centrality of Jesus Christ in my counseling, guiding individuals away from self-centered perspectives towards a Christ-centered worldview.

I will uphold the sanctity of life, the institution of marriage between one man and one woman, and the importance of family as taught in Scripture. I will strive to reinforce these values with grace and understanding in my counseling practice.

With God's help, I pledge to live my life and maintain my relationships in a way that reflects godliness and holiness, aiming to embody the truths I teach to others.

I acknowledge the spiritual authority delegated to the Church by Christ. I will demonstrate this by actively participating in a local church community and encouraging those I counsel to do the same, working in harmony with the Church's mission.

I commit to ongoing spiritual growth and professional development to enhance my counseling skills while remaining true to biblical principles.

I will maintain strict privacy and appropriate confidentiality in my counseling relationships, except in cases where there is a legal or ethical obligation to do otherwise.

I recognize the importance of setting appropriate parameters in counseling relationships and will seek supervision or refer clients when necessary.

In all my counseling endeavors, I will strive to reflect God's love, grace, and truth, recognizing that ultimate healing and transformation come through His power.
