SAFE HAVEN

Jennifer and her children are safe now. . .

Jennifer (not her real name) suddenly realized one night that the man grabbing her face and slamming her into the wall didn't love her like he'd always claimed he did. It was time she see and deal with the truth and stop the madness.

The shock was just as powerful a blow to her heart as the degrading names he was screaming at her as she cowered in the corner for the umpteenth time, covering her face in pain and shame as she sobbed. This enraged him even more.

This man who had promised to "love, honor, and cherish" her and who was the father of her children had become so controlling that she had no access to money or to bank accounts, had no car (that ran), had a cell phone that he checked via computer several times a day, and threw every meal she made on the floor.

Tonight, however, he had turned his screaming rage on her 4 year-old son Zachary.  There was a red-hot, man-sized hand print on the side of her little boy's face. Little Zach was still sobbing in his bed, and the littler ones could be heard crying in their beds, too.

Jennifer suddenly realized that she and the children needed to escape, needed to find some help, and realized, too, that her husband had so isolated her from her family and friends that she had nowhere to turn. He had taken her cell phone away from her when he got home from work - as he did every night - so she couldn't even dial 911.

What could she do? Where could she turn?

* * * * *

Jennifer and her children are safe now. . .

They are in a Safe Haven with another family, far beyond the oppressor's reach.

The Safe Haven Family they are with have been through this themselves, so they understand all of the confusing thoughts and emotions that are swirling around inside Jennifer.

They understand her draw to go back, to try and "fix" things, to try and "help" her husband. They also understand all of the challenges she faces ensuring hers and her children's safety - both in the short term AND the long term.

Both families need help support with the usual (and the unusual) expenses and challenges that always come up in these situations. Resources are limited. Would YOU be willing to be an advocate for Jennifer and her children - and the many others like them who come to us for help?
